Many of us end up settling for a life that does not fulfil us, mainly due to inner fears and limiting beliefs. We watch as others achieve greatness yet cannot see this for our own lives. We put ourselves in a little box and stay there because we ‘assume’ that greatness is not something that is possible for us.
What if I told you that we all have greatness within? We are all capable of creating our own magic. I’m a huge fan of Joseph Campbell’s work and believe that we are ALL the heroes of our own journey. However, we cannot find out unless we say YES to ourselves. Three years ago I had no idea that I would be doing the work I am today or meeting the most inspiring people I have ever met. I however said a massive YES to myself and have never looked back. It may take some courage to take the first step but may result in the best step you ever take in your life.
1. If you are breathing you have a purpose
You have a reason to be here on planet earth and it’s up to you to find what that is. Don’t do a disservice to yourself by just existing and doing what society wants from you or being a victim of your circumstances. We can sometimes feel stuck and stagnant when we look at our lives but circumstances can be changed. You don’t have to take drastic measures, just an initial leap of faith in yourself and by placing one foot in front of the other.
2. Money is usually the biggest hurdle between our dreams and us.
We often squander money on things to make us feel better about things we’re not happy about. Example, you hate your job so go out at the weekend and splurge to make yourself feel better. What if you loved your job and didn’t have to make yourself feel better?
I used to waste money like it was going out of fashion but these days apart from living costs and my loved ones, my money is mostly spent on my business or my own development which makes me so so happy. It's about prioritising what is important to you.
3. What do you want from life?
I’m reading the book 'The top five regrets of the dying'. In the book the very first regret is “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life expected of me”. If you are fortunate enough to live a long life, how would you want to look back on your life?
What do wish you’d pursued further? What do you wish you’d stood for and what do you wish you hadn’t stood for?
4. If something excites you pay close attention to it. So if money and time weren’t an issue what would you love spending your time doing? Do you love to travel? Cook? Paint? We often put work in a box. Right, I ‘have’ to do this for work and this for enjoyment. What if you married the two? Imagine that? Imagine making money out of something you absolutely love doing.
5. Channel your mind. This is super important. Every thought you think has an impact on your life. The universe gives us more of what we think about so if we say ‘I could never work for myself’ The universe is going to give us more of not being able to work for our self. Self-belief and positive thoughts are a must when it comes to living a fruitful life.
6. Spend time with people who are conducive to your progress.
Surround yourself with positive people, people who inspire you, people who think BIG because that will rub off on you.
7. If you have a goal already, make sure you are specific in what it is and when you want to achieve it.
Do you want to live abroad in 2025 being a yoga instructor? Do you want to give up your job in two years and follow your passion for photography? Like I said, be really clear and specific.
8. What do you need to implement it?
A qualification? A website? Do you need social media and marketing training? Do you need a mentor or a coach. Along my journey, I’ve had or done all of these.
Time is precious but we all have 24 hours in a day. What are you doing with yours currently? Scrolling? Too much Netflix? Spending time with people who are not actually contributing to your growth?
Also, what part of the day are you most alert because that’s when you need to prioritise your passion. It’s about streamlining your life so you’re implementing habits which are resourceful as opposed to unresourceful.
9. Who do you need to be mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually to live a fulfilled life?
Tony Robbins talks about physiologically and getting into state. How you feel about yourself will have a massive impact on how you show up in your life. If you have a poor diet, don’t exercise, feel sluggish, it will affect how much zest and passion you have for life. It’s a fact that being fitter and healthier gives you more confidence and energy.
What about mental and emotional health? Do you need a morning or evening routine to manage your mental and emotional health?
So how are you going to be the best version of yourself so that you can show up in your best light.
10. Dream big
For the last few years, I‘ve spent a lot of my time educating myself. I’ve been immersed in the world of self-development and spirituality. Following people who are sharing amazing messages. People like Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Brene Brown, Cheryl Strayed, Elizabeth Gilbert.
This year something occurred to me. I had acquired so much knowledge that I just wasn’t utilising. I was inspiring people but I wasn’t using it to scale my business or make an even bigger impact on the world. I was playing SMALL.
I knew that if I wanted to be amongst the big players I would have to elevate my brand and therefore myself. But in order to do this I was going to have to get the right people around me, which was going to come at a cost. So I think it was one of those ‘when the student is ready the teacher appears’ scenarios because I manifested a coach.
What I realised was that having a cheerleader who was solely there to push me out of the safe little comfort zone I was sitting in was exactly what I needed. There were moments this year that were so dark, so uncomfortable but my growth this year has been exponential.
